Once again we find ourselves facing a terrible tragedy. The news out of Florida is devastating. Staring down the barrel of a gun, lives have been lost, and families have been torn apart. Unbelievable carnage has been inflicted.
Daily we American families dutifully drop off our children into the care of our local schools. Similarly we allow our children’s administrators and elected leaders to set the agenda for the day. Tragically our school system has removed God from the classrooms. That reality needs to bring conviction into our lives. As God’s conviction comes into our conscience, we need to respond to the Lord in repentance. Yes, the Christian community needs to repent. The Christian community needs to turn from its ignorance. We need to see what has been happening for decades in our neighborhood schools. We need to ask and receive the forgiveness that God has to offer us.
Next we need to change our ways and get involved in the community schools. Mom’s, dads, and neighborhood individuals need to take leadership roles. Our school administrators need to know who we are. Parents and concerned citizens need to be at their doorstep weekly.
Furthermore, we need to gather with other Christian families and pray for our students. We need to ask and even demand, if necessary, where we can set up a Christian Club for the students. Calvary Chapel has qualified and willing Bible teachers that would be available by simply asking. If we get the “No you can’t do that here”, we need to simply ask “Why?” When needed, counsel is available and even legal help if necessary. We need to go to City Hall asking questions and expecting answers. We need to review the current actions that are being taken to avert school shootings. We need to be engaged, informed, and most importantly, the Christian community needs to be submitted to the power of God the Holy Spirit.
Let’s face the facts. There is only one of two ways we can avert the next shooting from coming to Jurupa Valley. Either totally lock the campuses down. Security top to bottom! Money would have to be no object. Paratroopers on the ground as well as on the roof tops. Metal detectors. Random searches. Armed teachers.
The other solution, gather together in the name of Jesus Christ and beg Him to be the overseer of our children, schools, and staff alike. One or the other.
In conclusion, let’s make it our business as a community of Believers to change the current school security posture that is proven a failure. No child should be faced with the current mayhem that is becoming routine. God help us! It’s not a complicated thing. Let’s quit making it so difficult.
With broken hearts we come to you Lord and ask for the power of the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and provide wisdom from above.
Calvary Chapel Jurupa Valley, we need to engage. If we wait any longer tragically we will pay the price with our children’s blood.
Sincerely,
Pastor G
