As Jesus gathered with His disciples in the Upper Room, He declared to them that He had desired to partake with them on the solemn night. At the time of their gathering Passover was being celebrated. Jesus knowing he was heading for the cross wanted to equip His disciples with knowledge. His desire was and is to educate. During that time, Jesus began to establish a memorial of what was to come to pass. Jesus knew upon His arrest His disciples would scatter. He also knew they would deny their relationship. They would be scared and intimidated. Therefore Jesus desired fellowship with them in the upper room. Jesus wanted to leave an impression not only on those in attendance but upon us as well. Jesus demonstrating He was the passover Lamb commanded that the bread be partaken of. “This is My body broken for you.” He later passed the cup and said…take and drink. This is My blood.
Not only is the believer to take the bread and eat of it, the believer is to receive the cup as well. The bread is taken in a private intimate way. Taken internally. The blood of Jesus is also taken in an intimate fashion. In addition, the blood is to be publicly displayed and proclaimed. The blood painted on the door posts of our lives for all to see. The blood of Jesus is what makes a believer. Nothing more and certainly nothing less.
Thank you Jesus for being our Passover Lamb, no additives required.
